a reel of 1/4 inch 4 track tapeThe quarter inch 4 track format was first developed for home quadraphonic recording in the 1970s. Musicians quickly discovered they could record 4 individual audio tracks for different instruments. Realizing this, TEAC created the A-3340 for recording studios supporting larger 10.5” reels for longer recording time. Despite being created many decades ago, 4 track machines are still used to this day.

Older 1/2" tapes, mostly AMPEX/Quantegy and fewer formulas of 3M/SCOTCH are unfortunately prone to "sticky shed" syndrome, due to the breakdown of the binder (glue) holding the oxide particles on the tape. Tape baking may be required for the transfer of older, unstable tapes. We have perfected the process of treating and rescuing these tapes (even those suffering from severe sticky shed). Let our team of seasoned engineers handle the delicate process of saving your recordings; giving them an infinite lifespan in the digital domain.
