We can retrieve MacOS files from DDS-1, DDS-2, DDS-3 DDS-4, DAT 72 and DAT 320 tapes archived with Retrospect software, including Pro Tools sessions and convert them to the current version of Pro Tools, as well as any other types of files stored on MacOS file systems.
We are also able to retrieve any file types from DDS-1 and DDS-2 files written under Windows NT and Windows XP using NTBackup.
Digital Data Storage (DDS) was a a computer data storage technology that is based upon the digital audio tape (DAT) format that was developed during the 1980s. DDS is primarily intended for use as off-line storage, especially for generating backup copies of working data. DDS-1 was first available in 1989 and could store around 1GB, followed by DDS-2 in 1993 which could store 4GB and DDS-3 in 1996 which held 12GB and DDS-4 which eld 20GB. SCSI tape dives were a popular backup and archival format for many studios using Pro Tools systems running Mac OS 8.1, 8.6, 9.x. By around 2002 USB hard drive cost per GB came down as well as most Macs being upgraded to USB models and DDS became more inconvenient and slower in comparison.
