Yamaha CS-5
The Yamaha CS-5 is a mono synth first produced in 1978. It has a single oscillator which can be a mix of sawtooth, square, and noise. The oscillator and be set to a range of 6 octaves. The LFO, which can go into the audio range, and can modulate the amp, the filter, and the the pitch. The LFO waveforms include sine, ramp, and sample & hold (random). Lowpass, highpass, and bandpass filter modes are available. The envelope can sweep the amp and the filter. External audio can be routed through the filter. It has been used in recordings made famous by Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, Aphex Twin, Solvent, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Black Moth Super Rainbow, and Soft Cell. Watch a demo here.
