Yamaha DX7
Arguably the most popular synthesizer of all time. Dating back to 1983, the DX7 really put FM synthesis on the map. Rather than using traditional oscillators, FM synthesizers like the DX7 produce sound by means of a sine wave modulating the frequency of another. Each of these modules is called an operator. The DX7 features 6 operators, an LFO (sine, square, triangle, saw up, saw down, and random), 61 full size keys with velocity and aftertouch, along with a breath controller input. It also features full Midi compatibility and an expansion slot for memory cartridges.
