Signal Flow โ€” MIDI & Audio Routing

MIDI cable (data) Serial data (USB) Audio cable (sound)
Thru box copies the MIDI Out to every instrument Each instrument decides โ€” by channel โ€” whether to respond

Our Setup's Controller, Also a Synthesizer

Keyboard Synth A MIDI
A keyboard synth used as the controller โ€” its MIDI Out drives the rig

Play with the mouse or your computer keys (A W S E D F T G Y H U J K, Z/X = octave). It transmits on its MIDI Out Ch, but the sequencer re-channels that to the armed channel. With Local Off it's a silent controller; with Local On you also hear its own patch.

Program Change
Sends on the Arm to Ch channel; the synth on that channel switches patch.

Sequencer โ€” Computer

The sequencing software will take whatever the incoming MIDI channel is and re-route it to the selected MIDI channel.

Each track transmits on its chosen channel through the MIDI Out. Change a channel to re-route a part. Two tracks on the same channel = intentional layering.

Instruments โ€” Channel Response

All instruments receive the same MIDI stream. The channel setting decides which respond. Omni = responds to every channel.
