New customers get a free rough mix of up to 3 multitrack tapes with their transfer. Ask for it when you order, and along with the individual track files from your multitrack tape transfer you will get a stereo rough mix, so you can hear what is on your tapes right away, before you load a single track into your DAW.
What is a rough mix?
A rough mix is a quick stereo balance of everything recorded on the tape. We set levels so the song plays back the way the recording sounds, without detailed EQ, effects or automation. It is a listening copy: a fast way to find out which takes are on which reel, check that a session is complete, or share the songs with bandmates before deciding what to do next.
Your transfer itself is not affected. Every track is still delivered as its own WAV or AIFF file, ready to mix properly in Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Reaper or any other DAW.
What is included
- Up to 3 multitrack tapes, such as 2-inch, 1-inch, 1/2-inch or 1/4-inch 4-track and 8-track reels, 4-track and 8-track cassettes, ADAT or DTRS tapes.
- One rough mix of each song on those tapes.
- One stereo file per tape. The rough mix runs the length of the tape as a single continuous file. Songs are not split into separate files.

Want a more detailed mix?
If you want more than a rough balance, such as EQ, compression, effects, edits, revisions or a mix you can release, we also offer detailed mixing. Contact us for our mixing fee, either when you order or after you have heard your rough mix. See our mixing and mastering services for more.
Help us get your rough mix right
If you still have the track sheet from the session, send it with your tapes. Knowing which instrument is on each track helps us balance the rough mix, and lets us label your transfer files properly.
